Koffee Hardknocks
(New page since 4th August 98. This time, it's about life.)

Why this name for the page? Happened today, this afternoon, 4 Aug 98. In the MTR, on my way to the client's office. Had an inspiration when reading up this book, "Dare to Fail", written by author, Billi P. S. Lim, from Malaysia. The idea is to put up a quote a day, maybe every two days. To ponder it over espresso or latte during quiet moments. About failures, mistakes and overcoming them. Quoted 5 days a week.

Very badly, we all need the courage to fail, get beaten, try again, try again, try again, face adversities, keep our chins up, and come out stronger, smarter and more resilient. Ready for more good ol' fashioned challenges. That is, forget being "Kiasu" (fear of failing), "Kia See" (fear of dying), and "Kia Bo" (fear of the wife). (We Singaporeans know about these terrible 3Ks affliction).  If you see this book anywhere, GET it.

You will find men who want to be carried on the shoulders of others, who think that the world owes them a living. They don't seem to see that we must all lift together and pull together.  (Henry Ford II)

Responsibility is the thing people dread most of all. Yet it is the one thing in the world that develops us, gives us manhood or womanhood fibre. (Frank Crane)

The man who insists upon seeing with perfect clearness before he decides, never decides. Accept life, and you must accept regret. (Henri-Frédéric Amiel)

1 December 98

Regret is an appalling waste of energy; you can't build on it; it's only good for wallowing in. (Katherine Mansfield)

Regret for time wasted can become a power for good in the time that remains, if we will only stop the waste and the idle, useless regretting. (Arthur Brisbane)
